Heber City, UT — Treatment management for the
municipal water authority here credits a unique lime
slaking technology as the key element for achieving
heavy-metals compliance for contaminated groundwater
input, within its National Pollutant Discharge
Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
The lime slaking system is the first step in a solids-contact
clarifying process that treats groundwater from a
mine drain tunnel that originally discharged into the
Provo River, a pristine fishing and drinking water source
for the Salt Lake Valley, and now is diverted primarily to
a new reservoir. Eventually, 100% of the water from the
tunnel is to be processed by the municipal plant for use
as drinking water.
